The sister of Nargis Fakhri, age 43 Aliya Fakhri, has been taken into custody in New York on suspicion of murdering her ex-boyfriend and his friend
Aliya Fakhri was detained on November 26 and charged with four counts of first-degree murder, four counts of second-degree murder, and arson the following day by a jury, according to a news article.
Aliya Fakhri has been denied bail thus far, and if found guilty, she might be imprisoned for life. According to the prosecution, on November 23, Aliya Fakhri, 43, killed her ex-boyfriend Edward Jacobs, 35, and his companion Anastasia Ettienne, 33, by purposefully setting fire to the detached garage of a house in the Queens borough. The indictment states that Fakhri got to the property at approximately 6:20 a.m.
District Attorney Melinda Katz said, “As alleged in this indictment, this defendant maliciously ended the lives of two people by setting a fire that trapped a man and woman in a raging inferno. The victims tragically died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries. Our condolences are with the families of Edward Jacobs and Anastasia Ettienne as we prosecute this case.”
The incident occurred in Jamaica, a neighbourhood in Queens, where Aliya is accused of setting a two-story garage on fire while her ex-boyfriend, Edward Jacobs (35), and his friend, Anastasia Ettienne (33), were asleep.

According to reports, Aliya’s ex-boyfriend, Edward Jacobs, was a plumber and a father of three and the couple had ended their relationship about a year ago, but Aliya allegedly continued pursuing him, trying to get back with him as per Edward’s mother Following rejections, she resorted to arson and Aliya has been charged with first-degree murder and related offences. She has been denied bail and could face a life sentence if convicted with her next court appearance scheduled for December 9.
Why Aliya Fakhri killed Jacobs?
Jacobs, a father of three, reportedly split from Aliya Fakhri approximately a year ago. His mother was having a hard time accepting the split. Jacobs’ mother was quoted in the article as saying, “He’s been trying to tell her to leave him alone for the past year, but she wasn’t accepting the rejection.” Additionally, she made it clear that Jacobs and Ettienne were friends rather than lovers.
However, Marie Fakhri, Aliya Fakhri’s mother, was also described by the New York Daily News as defending her and saying she doesn’t think her daughter was involved in the fire. She wouldn’t be killing anyone, in my opinion. She told the publication, “She was a person who was caring for everybody.”
Aliya is reportedly being kept at the Rose M Singer Center on Rikers Island, and her next court appearance is scheduled on December 9. She entered a not guilty plea to the accusations.
