How did the collision happen?
Eyewitnesses told Aaj Tak that the accident happened when a car carrying eight peopleโtwo of whom were womenโhit a motorcycle first. The SUV and the bike then moved to the other lane, where they were struck by a speeding truck. All nine of themโincluding the motorcycle riderโdied instantly after this. After the collision, the truck driver left the scene.
Police said that while travelling at a high rate of speed on National Highway 19 between Sasaram and Varanasi, the SUV struck a bike first, then the road divider, sending it flying into the air and landing on the other side of the road where it slammed head-on with a truck. The SUV was entirely destroyed in the collision, and all eight people inside perished instantly. The cyclist perished as well.
