Anthony Xavier Legette, an American football wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers in the National Football League (NFL), was born in Mullins, South Carolina, U.S., on January 29, 2001.

The 6 ft 1 In (1.85 m) tall player played college football at the University of South Carolina, where he had an impressive career with the Gamecocks. The Panthers drafted him in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, taking him with the 32nd overall pick.

Career

Legette grew up in Mullins, South Carolina, and attended Mullins High School, where he stood out on the football field. Although he was primarily a wide receiver, he also played quarterback during his senior year.

That year, he rushed for 1,826 yards and scored 19 touchdowns while passing for 887 yards and 14 touchdowns. He then committed to playing college football at South Carolina.

Over his first four years with the Gamecocks, Legette played in 41 games, starting 17 of them, and accumulated 42 receptions for 423 yards and five touchdowns.

However, it was his fifth and final year in 2023 that truly marked his breakout. Legette emerged as South Carolina’s top receiver, posting 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns on 71 receptions.

His standout performance included a record-setting 217 yards against Jacksonville State. In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers moved up from the 33rd overall pick to select Legette in the first round, with the 32nd overall pick, in a trade with the Chicago Bears.

The Panthers also included the 141st overall selection in the deal to secure Legette’s talents, viewing him as a key addition to their receiving corps.

Contract Details

As per various reports, the Carolina Panthers signed Xavier Legette for a four-year deal worth $12.3 million. He is set to receive a total of $5.8 million signing bonus. His contract also has a fifth-year option.
