‘Me and my brother will never be the same because of a fake wedding’ story explained
In the now viral story, the original poster, who introduces herself as a 30-year-old female recounts all the embarrassed she faced after she got fooled to spend thousands of dollars on her older brother’s ‘fake wedding.’ The OP firstly begins the story by sharing how she previously shared a close relationship with her brother. Despite living apart, the two siblings remain ever-present in each other’s lives. While the OP has now deleted the original post, many users have reposted it on various subreddits and other platforms.
In the post, the OP shares how her gay brother first asked her to be a groomsman in his wedding. However, he names another friend as his best man. Since the siblings shared a close bond, the OP expressed her displeasure. However, he responds coldly by saying, “My wedding isn’t about you” ok. The OP feels hurt as he had played an important role during her wedding. Her brother was the one who gave her away during her wedding. She had even named one of her own children after her brother’s name.
Despite the disappointment, the OP gets deeply involved in his wedding preparations and even has to put up with his wedding party’s mean attitude towards her. She feels more saddened when she finds out that his wedding party already hosted the bachelor party without her. Since she flew in from another state for her brother’s wedding, she feels left out when she learns about it. However, she continues to brave all the negativity from the wedding party. The OP even serves as her brother’s “flower fairy” since the wedding is a child-free wedding. While she endures all this, she finds out a shocking revelation.
A ‘fake’ wedding
After going through all the embarrassing and cold moments the OP receives a shock when she sees her brother host a drag show at his wedding. However, what came as more shocking was the announcement that the drag queen made. The OP explains how during the show one of the queens came on and announced that the wedding was all fake because her brother and his partner had already gotten married last year.
The OP and her mother were left in utter shock and further learns that everyone else at the wedding party already knew much to her dismay. She explains how their mother had given the groom 3K for their “fake wedding”, while she herself had spent “over 4k” on the wedding. She had paid for her own plane ticket, her Airbnb, and other expenses. The OP even allowed his wedding party to stay in her Airbnb for a night despite all the disrespect she experienced from them.
OP cuts ties with her older brother
Following the shocking twist of events, the OP realizes how her brother was even present when she gave birth to her latest kid. Despite being there, he didn’t tell her about having gotten married just days before she gave birth. She further revealed about how the wedding party gaslighted her by saying that she was crazy for feeling left out. She recalls how her brother called her saying he can’t get married without me and lied to her face every single day for a whole year. The OP also shared how even her brother’s husband mockingly asked her if she’s mad about their “fake wedding.”
Left with disappointment and anger, she decides to quietly leave the wedding venue. However, her brother and his husband pull her into a room and her brother starts crying. Despite all the embarrassment and betrayal, she keeps calm and simply tells them to enjoy their night and that they will talk another day. The following morning, the OP left the “wedding chat” on Snapchat and ignored her brother’s husband’s attempts to reach her. The OP also asks the pair to crop her out of all wedding pictures. She didn’t want to be associated with a fake wedding and be reminded of how embarrassing it was for her.
The OP then tells her brother and his husband that she will never speak to them again in the future. The husband surprisingly feels now guilt and calls her a “narcissist.” He even proceeds to say: “I feel bad for the people who have to deal with you.” The OP decides then and there to block both of them on her phone and cut all ties with them. Meanwhile, her brother did not make any attempts to make amends much to her disappointment.
