San Antonio Spurs’ late surge is resisted by the Orlando Magic

The visiting Orlando Magic held off the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, winning 108-98 thanks to 25 points from Paolo Banchero and 20 more from Franz Wagner. For the first eighteen minutes of the game, Orlando was never ahead, but they rallied to lead by six points at the half. Subsequently, the Magic took command, opening the third quarter with a 17-0 run and closing it out with a 25-point advantage.

However, San Antonio stormed back in the fourth quarter, with a 15-0 run that was capped by two 3-pointers from Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sochan as well as two close-range baskets to go within 99-96 with 3:27 remaining. Orlando gained some breathing room thanks to two free throws from Wendell Carter Jr. and a bucket from Markelle Fultz, but the Magic held on to win for the second time in their previous five games.

Carter gave the Magic an additional 14 points. In the victory, Cole Anthony and Fultz both scored eleven points, and Moritz Wagner finished with ten points.
Vassell scored the most points of any player with 26, followed by Victor Wembanyama with 21 and Sochan with 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Spurs. Key bench players Zach Collins (sprained ankle) and Keldon Johnson (elbow laceration) were not available for San Antonio’s game.
