The Catalan Grand Prix, which took place on Sunday in Spain, was overshadowed by turmoil when Nakagami collided with the home driver on turn two of the first lap. Italian Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia was also involved in the crash, and was sent falling off the side of the track like Rins.
As he was catapulted from his motorcycle, Nakagami’s head appeared to make contact with Bagnaia’s vehicle, according to slow-motion replays. After both of them were sent sliding around the surface, the Japanese star ended up sitting up in the gravel next to Rins.
On Twitter, the Sports Centre account summed it up perfectly: “TERRIFYING HAPPENING! Takaaki Nakagami fell and hit the back tyre of Pecco Bagnaia with his face. Alex Rins was also involved and was thrown to the ground.”
All three riders were eventually forced to retire, with Nakagami appearing to justify Rins’ remark about him after the two collided in Italy last week: “How do I feel about Taka?” he asked reporters.
“To be honest, I’m baffled by what he did. According to the riders, he is one of the most dangerous overtakers on the track.”
After A Motogp Crash, Nakagami And Rins Were Sent For Hospital Checkups.
Due to a scary incident at the start of the Catalan Grand Prix, MotoGP riders Takaaki Nakagami and Alex Rins will have more medical tests in a Barcelona hospital.
After a rapid start, Nakagami tumbled at Turn 1 and tagged the back of Francesco Bagnaia’s Ducati Desmosedici with his head, before his LCR Honda took out the Rins on the outside line.
The race was not stopped, and the yellow flags at Turn 1 were removed after two laps. The impact caused Nakagami’s visor to fall off, and the physical impacts of the collision were not immediately apparent — yet the race was not stopped, and yellow flags at Turn 1 were removed in two laps.
Rins, for his part, was spotted on the TV broadcast without any obvious injuries, but went to the medical centre of his own will owing to “some soreness in his left hand,” according to MotoGP.
