Marc Cucurella Defended Noni Madueke

However, Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has now come to defend Noni Madueke after the winger was criticized for laughing after Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City.

The Blues narrowly lost 1-0 at Wembley Stadium, with Bernardo Silva’s late goal sealing City’s victory. Chelsea’s form has been inconsistent in recent years, but their run to the FA Cup semi-final was a rare bright spot after beating Leicester City in the quarter-finals.

The match against Manchester City was tightly contested, with Chelsea holding their own until Silva’s goal in the 84th minute. The defeat extinguished Chelsea’s hopes of winning a trophy this season, extending their drought to over two years.

What Exactly Happened?

As the full-time whistle blew, television cameras captured emotional scenes at Wembley. Brazilian veteran Thiago Silva was visibly upset, but in the background, Madueke was seen sharing a laugh with Manchester City’s Jack Grealish.

This moment sparked discontent among some Chelsea supporters, who felt it showed a lack of respect for the team’s loss. However, Cucurella was quick to defend his teammate, explaining that the moment was misunderstood.

What Did Marc Cucurella Say?

Speaking to the media, Marc Cucurella said, “It was taken out of context. A lot of players have different personalities. For sure, Noni was not happy because he always loves to win. He wants to win every game in training.”

Madueke started the semi-final and played 79 minutes before being substituted, having started in three previous FA Cup games this season. Since joining Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in early 2023, the 22-year-old has contributed eight goals and two assists in 41 appearances for the club.

Despite his mixed record, Cucurella’s comments suggest that Madueke’s attitude and work ethic are well-regarded by his teammates.
