The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) usually maintains the record such as India 200m record in men’s running

These rankings are done on the basis of track races being conducted between 200 to 1,000m and are marked on 400m unbanked tracks, both banked and unbanked.

1.  Muhammad Anas

Anas is an Indian sprinter. His best score for completing 200m race is 20.63 seconds, which he participated in 2018 in Czech Republic.

2. Dharambir Singh

Dharambir is an Indian athlete. During the 2016, Indian Grand Prix, which was held in Bengaluru, he created a national record by winning the 200m race. During the 2016 Summer Olympics, he completed the 200m race in 20.45 seconds which was under the 20.50 seconds qualifying threshold. He became the first Indian athlete to have qualified for the 200m race in an Olympics and that too after 36 years.

3. Milkha Singh

The legendary sprinter Milkha Singh is popularly known as “The Flying Sikh.” He was Indian track and field sprinter. He has also served in the Indian army. During the 1960 Olympics, he created a record of completing the 200m race in 45.73 seconds, which remained a national record for almost 40 years.

During the 1958 Asian games, which was held in Tokyo, he had won a gold medal for 200m race. During the 1958 National Games of India, which was held in Cuttack, he again had won a gold medal for 200m race. He died at the age of 91 due to COVID-19 complications.

What does a ‘200m’ race exactly mean?

It is a kind of a sprint running event. It is conducted on an outdoor race 400m track, in which the race starts from the ‘curve’ and finishes on the ‘home straight’. This race is slightly shorter and is also known as ‘stadion.’ This race was the first event to have been recorded for the ancient Olympic Games.
