Taylor And His Wife Dusty Button Withdraw Counterclaim Against Edmonton Oilers Owner Daryl Katz

Taylor and his wife Dusty Button who had accused Edmonton Oilers owner Daryl Katz of having an inappropriate interaction with a ballet dancer when she was 17 has dropped their complaint and offered an apology to Katz

After a civil case was filed in Nevada in July alleging Katz had paid a ballerina at least $75,000 for sex services, Katz denied any wrongdoing. Following a sexual assault lawsuit by seven ballerinas, including lead plaintiff Humphries, was brought against them in 2021, ballet teacher Mitchell Taylor Button and his wife Dusty Button, a former member of the Boston Ballet, made the claims in a third-party counterclaim.

Statement from Marc Randazza: “Dusty and Mitchell Button made their allegations based on their understanding of information provided to them by Sage Humphries. They even double checked her year of birth with reliable third party sources. Nevertheless, Mr. Katz’s counsel provided the Buttons with credible evidence that key allegations were not true, and these sources were all wrong.

“Based on this credible evidence, Dusty Button and Mitchell Button have dismissed their claims against Daryl Katz. I want to personally apologize for any harm the erroneous factual claims may have caused to Mr. Katz and his family. We brought the claims in good faith, but the moment I doubted the ability to maintain them, I took corrective action and asked the court to strike all relevant references from the record. Nobody should repeat those allegations in any context without noting that they have been withdrawn and repudiated.”

Latest Update on Allegations against Daryl Katz regarding sexual relationship with Humphries

Sage Humphries and six other dancers are suing the Buttons, alleging that they have abused them sexually, emotionally, and financially with some case dating back to 2007. The Buttons deny the allegations and, as part of their defense, filed a third-party complaint and counterclaim last month alleging that Katz paid Humphries for sex when she was 17. Katz and Humphries both denied any kind of sexual relationship.

Shortly after CBC first reported on the Buttons’ claims, Katz and Humphries produced a driver’s license showing Humphries was born in 1997, making her 18 at the time of her interactions with Katz, which both sides said were business-related. The license was delivered by Katz and Humphries five days later, and the Buttons later withdrew their complaint against Katz and apologized.

Relationship of Sage Humphries with Taylor Button & Dusty Button

Humphries, 24, claimed that while she was a trainee dancer at the Boston Ballet in 2016, that’s when she first encountered the Buttons. At the time, Dusty Button was the lead dancer in the ballet and her husband worked as a dance teacher. Humphries stated in the lawsuit that the Buttons offered to manage her social media and phone in order to make her famous like Dusty. Later, they started abusing Humphries sexually and threatened to ruin her career if she didn’t comply.

The Buttons acknowledged having intercourse with Humphries in their counterclaim, but claimed that it was a consensual incident that started at Humphries’ suggestion after she turned 18.
