The surfer had Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (WPW), which is characterised as “a disorder in which there is an additional electrical pathway in the heart that leads to episodes of fast heart rate (tachycardia).”
WPW is a congenital heart condition that, while seldom life-threatening, can cause cardiac death, like in the case of Kalani David Dies of Seizure. One to three out of every 1000 people have the disorder. The largest risk, according to John Hopkins Medicine, is sudden death from a heart attack, which tachycardia can bring on. Though it only happens in fewer than 0.5 percent of cases, it is highly rare.
David got his start in the public eye at a very young age. He was only 14 years old when he was named one of the world’s top skateboarders. David was a skilled surfer who passed away while doing what he loved.
Kalani David Experienced A Life-Threatening seizure in 2016
The surfer battled Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome for a very long time. He had a seizure earlier in August 2016 while ice skating in an Oceanside, California park. At the end of the year, while still recuperating at his Oahu house, he experienced another seizure that lasted for six hours.
Kalani almost escaped death at the time, though. He was admitted to the hospital and put into a medically induced coma for the following two days. In order to remove the additional muscle that had formed on his heart and was responsible for his recurrent seizure episodes, he underwent open-heart surgery in 2017. His net worth stood at $250,000.
