Get ready as the Netflix NFL series Quarterback is all set to release on July 12, 2023. Even more impressive than Mahomes’ celebrity status is the fact that the documentary counts Peyton Manning among its executive producers. In a Netflix description, Manning describes the film as “a unique and intimate look at what life is like as a starting QB.”

Based on Netflix’s claim that all three quarterbacks were “mic’d up for every single game, from the beginning of the 2022 season to its conclusion,” it’s safe to assume that the documentary will bring viewers much closer to the action than a regular broadcast.
The quarterbacks’ off-field lives, which were captured on camera, will be just as much of a focus as their on-field performances this season. If Mahomes and the Chiefs hadn’t made it to the Super Bowl, do you think “Quarterback” would have been taken off the market sooner? From the 2022 NFL season onward, “Quarterback” tracks the progress of Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota, three of the starting quarterbacks.
Netflix appears to have made the right choice in selecting the trio, as each player had a noticeably different course throughout the season. Mahomes was successful in getting the Chiefs to the Super Bowl, while Cousins and the Vikings enjoyed a great season with several exciting comeback victories but ultimately fell short in the playoffs. On the other hand, Mariota started for the first time since 2019, but the Falcons eventually benched him in favor of Desmond Ridder.
There may be interesting things to see in the documentary that have nothing to do with Mahomes’ Super Bowl run. Fans may get some answers regarding how Mariota’s tenure in Atlanta ended, and we may get an up-close look at the spectacular comebacks led by Cousins and Justin Jefferson against the Bills and Colts, thanks to Netflix.
It appeared as though Falcons head coach Arthur Smith was critical of Mariota for quitting the team in December. Mariota stated that he was sidelined because of a knee injury, but Smith countered by saying that the knee was “nothing that has been an issue this season” and that the choice was “[Mariota’s] prerogative.” If the documentary lives up to expectations, we may learn more about what transpired.
