The Ben Simmons saga is refusing to die down with fresh reports emerging of his time at Philadelphia 76ers last season
After blatantly refusing to turn up to the Philadelphia 76ers training camp, Ben Simmons looked to have run his race at the club. With the side refusing to entertain his antics, the player looked headed out of the club ahead of the 2022 season.
However, given Simmons’ shenanigans, there weren’t too many takers for the player. A trade looked improbable owing to his horrid performances in clutch games with the player known to falter when it mattered the most.
Its a narrative well documented, one which had first come to light last season during the 76ers series with the Hawks. Simmons was horrendous during the seven game series with his torrid showings seeing him lose all alliance he had from the team’s fans.
Philadelphia 76ers Believe Ben Simmons Faked COVID Exposure Last Season
Fresh reports have now emanated, ones which reveal just how bad things were between Simmons and the 76ers last season. Ramona Shelbourne of ESPN has reported that the 76ers believe that Simmons faked COVID exposure in a bid to get out of game 7 against the Atlanta Hawks.
“Simmons was being held out of the team’s shootaround, he told them, due to a possible exposure to a team masseuse, who’d returned an inconclusive COVID-19 test,” Ramona said in his report.
“Several players were questioned about whether they’d seen her that morning, but only Simmons said that he had. He answered the question honestly, without thinking of the implications,” says one source close to Simmons.
“But according to multiple sources, many within the team questioned whether Simmons had actually seen the masseuse — or was just trying to get out of playing as he battled the basketball version of the yips,” Ramona has stated.
