List Of The Winners Of All The Emerging Player Of The Year Award In IPL

Here is a list of all the winners of the Emerging player of the year award in every season of the IPL

Indian Premier League, also known as IPL is one of the most famous T20 leagues in the world. Furthermore, the platform is perfect for young players to gain experience from the senior and foreign players. To recognize the efforts and performance of young players, IPL has an award named Emerging player of the year.

Earlier, the award was given to U19 players but later the criteria were changed. Now players with less than 5 Test and 20 ODI internationals under 23 years of age are eligible to receive the award. So, here is the list of all the winners of the ‘Emerging Player of the year’ award so far in IPL.

2008: Shreevats Goswami (Royal Challenger Bangalore)

Goswami had a decent season with RCB in 2008 as he scored 82 runs with help of one-fifty. Still, he managed to grab the award as he was a U19 player and won the World Cup.

2009: Rohit Sharma (Deccan Chargers)

DC won the second season of IPL and Rohit Sharma played a crucial role in it. He scored 362 runs in 15 games with a strike rate of 116. Currently, he is the captain of Mumbai Indians and the most successful captain in the history of IPL.

2010: Saurabh Tiwary, (Mumbai Indians)

The long hair guy from Jharkhand was said to be the next Dhoni as he scored 419 runs for MI with a strike rate of more than 135.

2011: Iqbal Abdulla (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Abdulla played an integral role in KKR’s first IPL victory. He picked up 16 wickets in 15 games at an economy of 6.10.

2012: Mandeep Singh (Kings XI Punjab)

Despite scoring more than 400 runs in the 2012 season, Mandeep failed to take his career into the top flight. He scored runs with a strike rate of more than 127.

2013: Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals)

Current, RR captain won the award back in 2013, for scoring 206 runs in 11 games with help of one half-century.

2014: Axar Patel, (Kings XI Punjab)

The Left-arm spinner picked 17 wickets in 17 games, and helped KXIP to reach the finals but ended up losing to KKR.

2015: Shreyas Iyer, (Delhi Capitals)

Iyer smashed 439 runs in 14 games with a strike rate of 138. Moreover, he was the only performer that season for DC with bat in the middle orders.

2016: Mustafizur Rahman, (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

Rahman is the first and only overseas player to date to win the award. He picked up 17 wickets that season in 16 games for SRH.

2017: Basil Thampi, (Gujrat Lions)

Thampi picked up 11 wickets in 12 games with the best figures of 3/29 for GL in 2017.

2018: Risabh Pant, (Delhi Capitals)

Pant marked his presence by scoring 684 runs in 14 matches with five fifties and a hundred, maintaining a strike rate of 173.60. This was an insane number for a youngster as he bagged the emerging player award that season.

2019: Shubhman Gill, (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Gill scored 296 runs in 14 games for KKR at a strike rate of 128. He scored three fifties in 2019 which gave him a slot into the Indian team.

2020: Devdutt Padikkal (Royal Challenger Bangalore)

Padikkal scored 473 runs in 15 games. However, he was criticized for his slow start but he answered all by smashing quick runs in the following season.

2021: Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super King)

Gaikwad is the first player to win the orange cap and the emerging player award in the same season. He smashed 635 runs and helped Chennai secure their fourth IPL title.
