Nuno Espirito Santo joins the list of sacked Premier League managers after just four months, know his Tottenham contract, payout and salary
Within four months of joining Tottenham Hotspur as the new head coach, Nuno Espirito Santo has been relieved of his duties as the manager of the North London club. The decision was taken by the club’s top management after Tottenham’s humiliating 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United over the last weekend.
The match was also going to be the deciding factor for Ole Gunnar Solkjaer’s job as head coach of Man United, but it looks like the odds were in favour for the former United striker.
It turns out that Nuno’s sacking was something that the players at Tottenham had long foreseen. Why you may ask? Because the 47-year old Portuguese manager was the 5th in line to be assigned the managerial position at the club. There were several efforts at enticing Antonio Conte, Mauricio Pochettino, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattusso to take up the head coach position at Tottenham but talks with them seemed fruitless.
Nuno Espirito Santo- Why he was sacked as Tottenham coach?
The Portuguese manager was not able to strike a cordial relationship with the players at Tottenham. His ways and tactics did not run parallel with how the players would have liked to approach their games. Perhaps the fact that Nuno was never the first choice for the managerial position was a major factor why he could not get into the nitty-gritties of the Tottenham squad.
Nuno Espirito Santo Tottenham Contract, Salary, Payout Clause
The Portuguese manager left Wolves at the end of the 2020-21 season to join Tottenham as manager on a 2-year deal i.e. till the end of the 2022-23 season. Nuno’s annual salary was decided to be that of 7 million UK pounds, with his weekly wages amounting to a total of 146,000 pounds.
Nuno was sacked after being in-charge for just 17 matches. Spurs were doing well in August when they managed to top the Premier League table after winning their first three games of the season. But the loss against Man United was their fifth loss in the league this season which forced them down to eighth position in the table.
Tottenham will have to pay Nuno 14 million UK pounds on his departure now, even when they could have sacked the 47-year old for free. This is because a clause in the manager’s contract would have given Tottenham the liberty to do away with Nuno as manager if the club did not make it to the top six in the Premier League.
