The official NieR Automata anime adaptation will debut next year, and the series is adding to its cast with a new trailer that features one of the game’s major new additions, know the characters list and voice actors
It came as no surprise to learn that an anime series was in the works for the NieR video game property given its recent explosion in popularity due to the release of NieR: Automata. In many ways, this new series will provide the game’s characters—including the recurring ones from the plot—a fresh perspective.

NieR: Automata Ver1.1a will hit theatres in January 2023
Automata anime, officially known as NieR: Automata Ver1.1a, will hit theatres in January of next year. A new teaser trailer introducing Chiaki Kano as Commander has been published in advance of the new series debut. Along with the other newly confirmed cast members, Keiko Isobe as Operator 60 and Meari Hatsumi as Operator 210, she is returning after performing the voice of the role in the original video game. The teaser below gives you a glimpse of the Commander in action:
NieR: Automata Ver1.1a, which is currently slated to premiere in January, will be directed by Ryouji Masayuma and composed by Yoko Taro, the developer of the original game, for A-1 Pictures. Character designer and principal animator Jun Nakai will also be responsible for the music, which will be composed by MONACA. Main voice actors who have already been confirmed for the new anime include Yui Ishikawa as 2B, Natsuki Hanae as 9S, Hiroki Yasumoto as Pod 042, and Kaoru Akiyama as Pod 153. These actors are returning from the game.
What can we expect?
As previously stated by the game’s original creator Yoko Taro, utomata Ver 1.1a will also have a unique plot not found in the games. However, for a hint as to what to type of expectations from the new series, Square Enix previews NieR: Automata’s initial video game release as such, “The androids 2B, 9S, and A2 fight to restore the machine-driven dystopia that has been taken over by strong machines in NieR: Automata.”
