“Naught naughty,” Harsha Bhogle shuts down RCB and Virat Kohli fan girl Pari on Twitter

A Virat Kohli and RCB fan girl, Pari was quick to get shot down by Harsha Bhogle

A RCB and Virat Kohli fan used screenshots of Bhogleโ€™s two tweets about two of the biggest superstars of Indian cricket over the last couple of days to paint a negative picture about him.

After MI vs DC got over, the 61-year-old broadcaster hit back at the โ€œnaughtyโ€ troll for using his tweets out of context. He clarified that his tweet on Rohit was put out in the middle of his innings when he was batting at a strike rate of nearly 200 and that too on a tricky Delhi surface while chasing.

Dhawan got off to a poor start, but he quickly picked up the pace at the conclusion of the innings to make up for it. His unbeaten fifty-six helped Punjab Kings reach 197 for four in their allotted 20 overs. Even though Punjab Kings won by five runs, Dhawan’s slow start grabbed a lot of attention on social media.

Famous pundit Harsha Bhogle shared his thoughts on Twitter about Dhawan playing the anchor position on a surface that was favourable for batting. According to Bhogle, although it may appear that the batter has recovered from his slow start in the later innings, the 30-plus balls he played at run-a-ball could be unfavourable to the team.

“Shikhar Dhawan’s innings will, or should, raise the issue of whether an anchor batter is appropriate, particularly under these circumstances. The 30 balls at run-a-ball can sting, even if you look to have improved your strike rate by the end,” Bhogle tweeted.

Was Harsha Bhogle biased here?

Following his statement, he was criticised on social media for singling out Dhawan while others, like KL Rahul, do the same and play for their national teams. Bhogle subsequently offered an explanation, claiming that his tweet was not directed at Dhawan and that other notable batsmen, like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Jos Buttler, and Babar Azam, have adopted the same strategy in recent years.

“Shikhar isn’t the only person talking about this today. For the past two to three years, we have discussed it in relation to outstanding players like KL Rahul, Babar Azam, and occasionally Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler. In my opinion, you might contemplate that role in a 150-160 game but not in a 180-190 game,โ€ he continued.

Fans immediately observed how Bhogle avoided mentioning Rohit Sharma’s name and left him out on social media.

One of the most reliable Indian batsmen in the IPL, Shikhar Dhawan has scored more than 400 runs over the past several seasons. We’ve witnessed how, in crucial games, the Indian team talks less about playing aggressively, yet we lose in knockout games. In light of the upcoming 50-over World Cup, the team management might consider using Dhawan’s experience at least as the replacement for Rohit and Shubman Gill as the opening batter.
