Four times Grand Slam champion and former World No. 1 is again into the headlines. The Japanese professional won’t be taking part in this year’s Wimbledon Championships that start 27th of this month. Naomi Osaka, the player from Japan all of sudden was forced to pull out of the coming Grand Slam in the United Kingdom that will be played on grass. She was expected to be one of the favourites at the tournament. Osaka had to withdraw from Wimbledon due to an Achilles injury. 

“My Achilles still isn’t right so I’ll see you next time,” updated Osaka through her official social media account.

After the All England Club banned Russian and Belarusian players in retaliation to the invasion of Ukraine, Osaka, 24, was already considering not playing because of the ATP and WTA tours’ decision to deduct ranking points from Wimbledon.
The Japanese’s tweet was accompanied by a photo of herself on a grass court and an emoji of a blade of grass, while not expressly referencing Wimbledon.
The player from Japan first developed an Achilles problem in her first encounter in Madrid in May, causing her to withdraw from the Italian Open the following month.
“Here’s me jogging on an underwater treadmill because my Achilles is still being difficult,” she captioned a video of a training activity she shared on social media earlier this month.
