Who is Manish Sisodia?

Manish Sisodia is deputy chief minister of the National capital, Delhi. He has recently been in the news because CBI raided his house in an alleged corruption case. He has also been in the news because two major publications of the world have praised his education policy.

He was born on February 2, 1972, into a Rajput family in the Phagauta hamlet in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district.  His father is a teacher in a public school and his name is Dharampal Singh Sisodia.

He attended a local government college for his education. After earning a journalism diploma from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in 1993, he later started his career as a journalist. He eventually became an activist and then became a poltician.

He is married to Seema Sisodia. He has one son and his name is Meer Sisodia.

He is presently 50 years old.

Manish Sisodia, who filed his nomination papers for the February 8 Assembly polls in 2020 claimed his net worth has declined by Rs 17,736. While his self-acquired immovable properties remained roughly the same as in 2015, worth of his wife’s properties increased from Rs 8.70 lakh in 2015 to Rs 65 lakh.

His Career

Manish Sisodia began working professionally as a radio host at an FM radio station. He served as a reporter, news producer, and news reader for Zee News between 1997 and 2005 after hosting a number of shows, including “Zero Hour” for All India Radio in 1996.

He and Kejriwal established Kabir, a non-profit that organised public hearings with citizens and government representatives, after formally ending his career in journalism. He was an important contributor to the team that created the Right to Information Act.

He subsequently rose to prominence in the Anna Hazare-led India Against Corruption campaign of 2011 that pushed for the passage of a Jan Lokpal bill. He was one of the Aam Aadmi Party’s core founders (AAP). He joined the Political Affairs Committee of the organisation.

Since February 2015, Manish Sisodia has held the position of Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi. Additionally, he was elected as a Patparganj constituency MLA for a third consecutive term. He oversees the Public Works Department, Labour, Finance, Planning, Excise, GST, Vigilance, Services, Tourism, Land & Building, Art, Culture, and Language in Delhi government.

The book “Shiksha: My Experiments as an Education Minister”, published by Sisodia, details the process of Delhi’s educational reforms and has won praise for its useful advice on the subject.
