Local favorite Lee Zii Jia was eliminated in the first round of the 2023 Malaysia Open after falling to Japanese shuttler Kodai Naraoka by a score of 21-13, 17-21, & 19-21 despite winning the first set. Meanwhile, Loh Kean Yew defeated Li Shifeng by scores of 21-19, 21-23 to win easily in straight sets. In a contrasting match, Indian star Lakshya Sen lost to fellow countryman HS Prannoy by scores of 24-22, 12-21, & 18-21 to exit the coveted competition in the first round.
On Thursday, the 2023 Malaysia Open will feature all second-round matches, including HS Prannoy vs. Dwi Wardoyo and Viktor Axelsen vs. Liew Daren. 2023 Malaysia Open: BWF points award system
Because this event will serve as the introduction of the 2023 BWF World Tour, all competitors will be hoping to get off to a strong start by winning the famed BWF Super 1000 tournament. At the 2023 Malaysia Open, 12,000 BWF points will be given to each category champion, giving the shuttler an advantage on the 2023 BWF World Tour. Lakshya Sen will only receive 3,000 BWF points for his first-round exit, denying him the opportunity to gain a considerable amount of ground in the BWF World Rankings.
