1- Novak Djokovic
Novak had first clinched this position on July 4, 2011, by defeating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the Wimbledon semifinals. He then beat rival Rafael Nadal at the finals and was crowned by the title.
Djokovic in the year 2021 was eying to become the man who has won all the Grand Slams and a gold medal in one calendar year. Although he couldn’t fulfil the dream won three Grand Slams in a year namely, Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon stay as World No. 1.
2- Daniil Medvedev
The Russian managed to end above Rafael Nadal (the Spaniard ranked 3 that time). Medvedev clinched the title at the Open 13 in Marseille where he defeated Pierre-Hugues Herbert in three sets that helped the player gain the second rank.
3- Alexander Zverev
The German was behind Stefanos Tsitsipas at number four the time when the Greek reached the Roland Garros final where he was defeated by Djokovic, but winning gold at the Tokyo Olympics 2022 and his performance throughout made Zverev gain one rank had at 3.
4- Stefanos Tsitsipas
Stefanos Tsitsipas clinched the World Number three spot when he reached the French Open final but the Greek eventually dropped a position when Alexander Zverev won the gold medal to grab his spot. Rafael Nadal could have managed to stay at three but the player dropped points at the Citi Open to what the player from Greece took advantage of.
His performance eventually become slow after conquering two titles in 2021 in Monte-Carlo and Lyon respectively but his form and others raise resulted to drop him at number four.
5-Rafael Nadal
From three to six, Rafael Nadal lost in the semifinals of the French Open against Novak Djokovic, after which, the Spaniard decided to have a rest. He missed the Olympics and other majors and was sidelined by a foot injury for four months that resulted in the downfall of his rankings.
Winning ATP Summer Set at Melbourne in 2022 moved Nadal one rank upwards to World No. Five. The player is eyeing to win his record of 21st Grand Slam in absence of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.
6- Andrey Rublev
The Russian dropped one position to give Rafael Nadal his place at World Number 5.
7- Matteo Berrettini
The Italians stunning performance at Wimbledon can’t be forgotten. Although the player couldn’t clinch the title against Djokovic, ending up being a runner up of the Grand Slam resulted positively.
8- Casper Ruud
Ruud advanced to the semifinals of the ATP Cup 2021 where unfortunately he lost to World No. 1 Djokovic. The 22-year old had an outstanding year where he reached the semis of the tournament in Turin. His performance throughout the year resulted in giving him a career-high 8th position.
9- Felix Auger-Aliassime
Auger-Aliassime is the second-youngest player to be ranked in the top 20 by ATP. The Canadian attained his career-high 9th rank on 10 January 2022 for finishing eight runner-up finales in singles and one doubles title on the ATP Tour. He was one of the players to power his team Canada won the ATP 2022 titles.
10- Jannik Sinner
Sinner managed to move a rank ahead to number 10. He clashes against World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev next in the round-robin stage, holding a match point but was defeated by the Russian. This resulted in the Italian entering the top-10 again on 22 November 2021.
