After getting his third century, he also became the first Indian batsman to score in the 2023 calendar. This post will provide the list of players to score in the first month of each new year.
Indian cricketers who have scored a century in the first month of each new year (since 2012)
1) Virat Kohli – 2012
Virat Kohli became India’s first player to score a century in 2012. On January 24, 2012, Virat Kohli scored 116 runs in India’s fourth test match against Australia at Adelaide Oval.
2) Virat Kohli – 2013
Virat was in top form in 2012-13, as he became the first player to score in the new year on 22 February 2013 against Australia.
3) Virat Kohli – 2014
For the third time in a running, Virat Kohli became the first player to achieve a first century for India in 2014. In an ODI against New Zealand, he scored 121 off 111 balls.
4) KL Rahul – 2015
At fourth is Indian opener KL Rahul who smashed his first century of 2015 against Australia in Tests.
5) Rohit Sharma -2016
Fifth on the list is Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who became the first player to score a century for India in 2016 in an ODI against Australia.
6) Virat Kohli – 2017
In 2017, Virat Kohli became India’s first centurion and scored a century against England in one-day internationals.
7) Virat Kohli – 2018
In 2018, Virat Kohli was once again India’s first centurion.
8) Chiteshwar Pujara – 2019
Chiteshwar Pujara became India’s first-century batsman in 2019. In the Tests, he got a century against Australia.
9) Rohit Sharma – 2020
In 2020, Indian captain Rohit Sharma became the team’s first centurion. In one-day internationals, he scored a century against Australia.
10) Rohit Sharma – 2021
Rohit Sharma was also the first player in 2021 to achieve a century. In the Tests, he got a century against Australia.
11) Rishabh Pant – 2022
In 2022, Rishabh Pant had an outstanding Test series against England. In the same year, he became India’s first centurion.
12) Suryakumar Yadav – 2023
Suryakumar Yadav became India’s first century-scoring batsman in 2023. In T20Is, he scored an undefeated 112 off 51 balls against Sri Lanka.
