Here is a list of all the winners of the fair play award in the IPL from the 2008 to 2021 season
Indian Premier League, famous as IPL is a league that doesn’t only hosts cricket matches but makes sure to promote all the terms. Important awards like Fair play, Emerging player, and others are meant to recognize the small aspects of the game. As is it said, ‘Cricket is a Gentlemen’s game’, there is no reward given for the behaviors in the game.
IPL coined the term in 2008 that the team with the best discipline on the pitch will be rewarded. So, here is a list of all the winners of the fair play award at IPL to date, with an explanation.
IPL Fair Play Award Winners List Of All Time
The fair play award is given to teams for their behaviors on the pitch. Furthermore, the on-field umpires including the third umpire rate the teams after the match on three different criteria. Teams can collect a total of ten points from each match. Umpires give these points by considering several facts like respect for the oppositions, how the team has adhered to the “spirit of the game” and the laws of cricket.
Here is the distribution of the points of fair play:
- Spirit of the Game: 4 Points
- Respect to their opposition: 2 Points
- Shown respect towards the laws of the game: 2 Points
- Shown respect to all the umpires: 2 Points
Coming to the winners, MS Dhoni’s Chennai has won the award a maximum of six times. However, all of these came before 2015 and the team failed to secure any after 2015. Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the award twice.
Two times champion Kolkata Knight Riders have failed to secure the award so far. Two other teams Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals have also not won the award in the history of IPL.
