On April 24, 2022, 2022 Laureus World Sports Awards took place in Seville, Spain as a virtual awards ceremony, where awards were distributed to players and teams with outstanding performance during the season.

The Laureus World Sports Awards, which were first held in 2000, commemorate the best and most inspirational sporting victories of the year while also highlighting the efforts of Laureus Sport for Good. More than 1,000 sports journalists from over 70 countries voted to produce shortlists for six categories. The International Paralympic Committee provides the shortlist for World Athlete of the Year with a Disability.
The Laureus World Sports Academy consisting of select group of athletic legends selects the winners in each of the shortlisted categories, and the Academy also has the authority to bestow discretionary accolades such as the Laureus Lifetime Achievement Award. Meanwhile, the winner of the Laureus Sporting Moment of the Year is decided by a global public vote.
On Sunday 24th April, the 2022 Laureus World Sports Awards took place as a virtual awards ceremony in Seville, Spain.
2022 Laureus World Sports Awards List and Winners
Laureus World Sportsman and Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year in 2022 award went to Formula One world champion Max Verstappen and Jamaican Olympic sprinter Elaine Thompson-Herah respectively.
With a controversial win in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December, Verstappen claimed the F1 driver’s title. In winning the honor, he beat out Tom Brady, Novak Djokovic, Caeleb Dressel, Eliud Kipchoge, and Robert Lewandowski.
