The Nets have named Vaughn as the new head coach.

His wife is Laura Vaughn and they met when Jack was playing for Kansas and dated during their college days until their marriage in July 2003. 47 year old Jacque’s net worth stands at $10 million.

His first opportunity came with the Orlando Magic from 2012 to 2015 and in that stretch, he posted a record of 58-158. His most wins in any single season came in 2014 with 23 wins.

During the 2019-2020 season, Jacque Vaughn’s coaching record with the Brooklyn Nets was 7-3 and he also coached four playoff games, but did not win any of them.

Less than two weeks have passed since Steve Nash was dismissed and suspended before the announcement. Ime Udoka, the head coach of the Boston Celtics, rapidly became known as a “frontrunner” for the position. Since 2016, when general manager Sean Marks was hired, Vaughn, 47, has served as an assistant coach with the Nets.

Vaughn’s got everything that nets need.

Following the announcement, Marks said that Jacque’s basketball knowledge, competitiveness, and deep knowledge of the squad and business made him the clear-cut best individual to lead the group moving forward. He has a track record of developing the players to their full potential, holding them accountable, and playing a cohesive, team-first kind of basketball.

Vaughn’s coaching stint

Vaughn, the team’s sixth head coach since the Nets relocated to Brooklyn in 2012, has far more NBA coaching experience than an assistant. He played point guard for 12 seasons in the NBA, coached the Orlando Magic from 2012 to 2015, and then took over as the interim coach of the Brooklyn Nets in 2020 when Kenny Atkinson was dismissed.

He has served as an NBA assistant coach and/or head coach for a total of 13 years. All things considered, considering the difficulties of the 2022–23 season thus far, perhaps someone so familiar with this team can be of great assistance.

The time of Vaughn in Brooklyn

Vaughn returned in 2020 and became the NBA assistant coach earning the highest salary when Steve Nash was hired. The longstanding assistant made a strong case to become head coach after leading the Nets’ young players into the Orlando bubble without Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, or DeAndre Jordan. He has had a history with the franchise.

Vaughn’s record as the Orlando Magic head coach

Vaughn has a 58-158 record in three seasons as an Orlando head coach. To be fair, he took over the group in the midst of a rebuild right after Dwight Howard pushed his way to Los Angeles in 2012.

  • 2012-13: 20-62
  • 2013-14: 23-59
  • 2014-15: 15-37

His underwhelming statistics were less a reflection of Vaughn’s on-court ability than of the players.

Will Vaughn succeed at the Nets?

Although he has more losses than wins on his record, it’s still plausible that this squad needs a coach that is forward-thinking and compassionate.

Perhaps most crucially, he has put the younger Nets players on the fast route to becoming more than just adequate role players by demonstrating trust in them.
