Up against a stalwart of Indian badminton, Malvika Bansod upped the ante when needed the most. Showcasing her mettle when she locked heads with Saina Nehwal, Bansod become only the second ever Indian to beat the ex-world number 1 in any international tournament since 2017 as she downed her opponent in a measly 34 minutes in straight sets.
Bansod defeated Nehwal 21-17, 21-9 while Chaliha managed to ease past Hoyaux 21-17, 21-14. Top seed PV Sindhu also made her way to the quarter-finals along with Aakarshi Kashyap. Sindhu got the better of Ira Sharma 21-10, 21-10 while Kashyap beat Keyura Mopati.
The quarter-finals of the India Open 2022 will be taking place on Friday.
