Reports reveal that federal judge Eleanor Ross made headlines back in November 2014, after she was appointed by the-then U.S. President Barack Obama as the first African American woman to ever serve as a Federal Judge in the Southeast Court.
Before being appointed as the Federal Judge, Ross established a long legal career in Georgia. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in B.A. from American University in 1989, and later in 1994, she went to pursue higher studies from University of Houston Law.
Ross spent several years working as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, before being appointed as a State Court Judge in 2011 by the Governor Nathan Deal, a position she served until her appointment as a Federal Judge.
What Exactly Happened?
Earlier this week, Eleanor Ross became the subject of criticism after she was identified as the unnamed Jurist involved in a workplace misconduct.
The matter came to light when her law clerks raised an official complaint about the workplace misconduct and a special team of investigators launch an investigation and finds out that the Federal Judge was involved in a 2-year extra-marital affair from 2023 to 2025 with a man, identified as Kelley Collier, Deputy-Chief in Atlanta Police Department.
What Did the Investigation Report Reveal?
The Investigation report reveal the Federal Judge being involved in an extra-marital affair with a deputy-chief officer of the Atlanta Police Department from last two years. Additionally, reports also revealed that the two had intimate encounter on various occasions inside her courthouse chambers during business hours.
Her staff reveals that they often heard “unsettling noises,” and kisses sound which created an uncomfortable work environment for them.

Eleanor is married to a DeKalb County Judge, Brian Ross, who previously served as the Clayton County Prosecutor. The couple tied their knot in 2001 and have two daughters.
According to Brian’s LinkedIn profile, he was raised in Columbus, Georgia, and went to receive his bachelor’s degree from A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida. After graduating in 1993, he went to serve as a field artillery officer in the U.S. Army.
In 1996, he left the army to pursue his higher studies from Georgia School of Law. In 2001, he was appointed as the Assistant District Attorney for the Newton County District Attorney Office, wherein he served until 2003, before joining The Ross Law Firm, as an Attorney, herein he stayed for 10 years until 2013 and later he joined the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office as the Senior Assistant District Attorney.
In July 2015, he was appointed as the Judge for DeKalb County State Court, a position he serves till now.
