“I’m not going to play if Dhoni bhai doesn’t,” Suresh Raina Says He’ll Quit IPL When MS Dhoni Leaves

Current Chennai Super Kings batsman Suresh Raina has made an astounding remark, stating that if his pal Dhoni chooses to retire, he would also not participate in the IPL

Raina claimed he prefers to play for CSK as long as he hits the sack and that if Chennai wins this year he will persuade Dhoni to play in IPL 2022.

The duo MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina were therefore purchased by the franchise of India Cements for the opening IPL Auction in 2008. Ever since the moment, the duo served the franchise taking it to the higher level.

Except for two years, as the franchise witnessed a ban due to match-fixing issues. After securing the seventh ranking in IPL 2020, last year CSK remained in the top-2 as second in this season’s points table until the competition was halted midway due to covid-19.

Suresh To Quit IPL If MS Dhoni Retires

“But I suppose till I play, I’ll play just for CSK. This year, I hope we do well. I’m not going to play  if Dhoni bhai doesn’t next season too.

Since 2008 (CSK) we’ve been playing… I will persuade him to play next year after we win this year,”  remarked  Raina to News 24 Sports.

The cheeky left-hander also stated that he would perform his best, and If MS Dhoni doesn’t play then he too won’t play further he concluded in the end.

The Incredible Bond Between the duo

The two of them are also close. In reality, a few minutes after MS Dhoni declared his withdrawal from world cricket on August 15, 2020, Suresh Raina joined him in his retirement and announced his departure as well.

Raina shockingly announced his retirement because of his age concern and despite having all the chances of entering the two T-20 world championships which were lined up ahead.

Suresh Raina Staggering Record in the IPL

With 5,491 tournament runs in 200 games, Raina is among the top 5 all-time performers with a maiden century and 39 half-centuries. His average rate is 33.07 and his strike rate of 136.89.

Recognized by the CSK fans as ‘Chinna Thala’, he has smashed 202 sixes and 502 boundaries in the IPL history, and also grabbed 103 catches while playing in the IPL.
