Lewis Hamilton’s Involvement with Chelsea and Football Support

Hamilton is rumored to be investing £10 million, along with tennis star Serena Williams, in one of the three remaining offers for the reigning European champions, who have been placed up for sale by the UK government following fines imposed on Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

Hamilton, a seven-time former World Champion, has always been a devoted supporter of Chelsea’s English capital rivals, Arsenal. His love and support for Arsenal was linked to his birth in Stevenage, 25 miles north of London.

Reigning F1 Champion Max Verstappen’s Response to Hamilton’s Chelsea Involvement

Verstappen is well aware of his rival’s football allegiance and has questioned why the 37-year-old Britishman would only want to make such a tiny investment, given Chelsea FC’s £2.5 billion asking price. Further, he was intrigued about the fact that why Hamilton, an Arsenal supporter would want to be involved with London rivals Chelsea.

Verstappen, who is from the Netherlands, joked that if his allegiances were with a rival team, he would never be a part of such a deal. “I’m a PSV [Eindhoven] fan and I would never buy Ajax,” the Dutchman told the PA news agency, referring to two of the country’s most popular football clubs.

“And if I was going to buy a football club I would want to be the full owner and to take the decisions myself, not own just a tiny percentage.

“I thought he was an Arsenal fan? And if you are an Arsenal fan going for Chelsea, that is quite interesting.

“But everyone does what they want with their money so let’s see what comes out of it.”

Verstappen also commented that if he were to acquire a football club, he would want to be the only owner and make all of the choices, not just hold a small percentage. Hence, Hamilton’s tiny investment in Chelsea didn’t make much sense to him

Verstappen’s comments came only days before the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which will take place on Sunday, April 24.
