The Witcher 3 next-gen update is now out, but many players are confused of how to transfer their save from PS4 to PS5, saving them from having to start the game over from scratch

NEXT-GEN WITCHER 3 SAVE TRANSFER REQUIREMENTS
For the PS4 and PS5, you can move your Witcher 3 save from the previous generation to the next one. The following steps have been supplied by Reddit member lordmorpheus2000:
Open The Witcher 3 on the PS5 first. Press L2 to open the gog or code after selecting the load menu. Create a Google account or sign in if you already have one by scanning it with your smartphone.
After accepting the awards, press L2 once more to learn whether cross progression is enabled in the game. If The Witcher 3 isn’t already installed on your console, get it for the PS4.
You can load the save from where you wish to start the game on PS5 by opening the PS4 version (you will discover your most recent PS5 version save here, ignore that).
Go back to the load menu after pausing the game and saving it once again (this save will transfer). Then, just like before, press L2 trigger to scan the GOG QR code. Scan it using your smartphone, and then sign in using your Google account.
You’ll get some more rewards after pressing L2 a second time, at which point the game will inform you that your save has been uploaded to the cloud.
Put the PS4 version to bed. Restart the PS5 version after which you can find your PS4 save there in the load menu. Enjoy!
In addition to everything mentioned previously, a number of Reddit users also pointed out that the PS4 version needs to be updated to version 4.0. You cannot move your save to a PS5 if your PS4 save file is version 1.6.
