Following the departure of CEO Jim Ryan, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), the company that makes PlayStations, and the Sony Group Corporation announced the new SIE leadership group.
Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino will take Jim Ryan’s place as Sony Interactive Entertainment’s CEO in tandem. In addition to covering the expansion of PlayStation IP into other media, such TV and cinema, the business studio features all of PlayStation’s first-party teams. Who are Herman Hulst and Hideaki Nishino?
Herman Hulst and Hideaki Nishino are the new joint CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment which will be in effect from June 1, 2024.
Both will report to Sony Interactive Entertainment chairman Hiroki Totoki, who has been acting CEO of the division since Jim Ryan stepped down from the role at the end of March.
In addition to being the President, COO, and CFO of Sony Group Corporation, Hiroki, who has been acting as SIE’s temporary CEO, will also hold the position of Chairman.
Hulst and Nishino are keen to collaborate in order to optimise SIE’s synergies and strengthen the core strengths of both businesses. Totoki will be their superior.
At the moment, Nishino is the SVP of the Platform Experience Group, where he is in charge of managing the team that develops the technological and user experience elements of PlayStation products and services.
Hideaki Nishino will lead the Platform Business Group, which includes console hardware, technology, accessories, PlayStation Network and third-party relations and has been part of the Sony business since 2006, holding numerous roles at Sony Network Entertainment, Sony Corporation and SIE.
As CEO of Platform Business Group, his duties for products, services, technology, and platform experience will remain unchanged.

Furthermore, he will oversee commercial operations, which will include marketing and sales of hardware, services, and accessories in addition to managing relationships with third-party publishers and developers.
Talking about Herman, he is holding the position of SVP and Head of PlayStation Studios and is currently in charge of creating content for a variety of platforms, including PCs and PlayStation consoles, as well as utilising PlayStation Productions to expand the reach of video game IP into other media including movies and television shows.
Herman was earlier Guerrilla Games head which was acquired by Sony in 2005 and then became the Playstation Studios Head and now is the CEO.
Hulst is CEO of the newly named Studio Business Group, which includes all of PlayStation’s first-party teams, plus covers the development of PlayStation IP onto other mediums, such as TV and film.
