The Australian joined McLaren from Renault in 2020 and last year he won the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. Since then, Daniel had been caught up in his poor performances. This season, Ricciardo only managed to score 19 points with the best finish in 6th place. McLaren CEO Zack Brown said it was important to announce this before the weekend, so the team can focus on racing with no distractions. Ricciardo had a great season with Renault before joining McLaren, he finished the podium twice with Renault.
Zack Brown answered about the reason Ricciardo failed to deliver
‘‘We don’t know for sure, he’s not sure. We tried to change cars and come up with a proposal to change people. We’ve had two seasons, two different cars. We thought year one, maybe it just didn’t go well with the car. And in the second year, it’s a completely different car.”
‘‘We saw this in Monza. The guy didn’t win eight grand prix by accident, we simply weren’t able to unblock it together. And Lando drives very well and gets the car for performance’’.
So, what’s next for Daniel Ricciardo?
Eight times winner of the Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo believes he still has fire in him and with that belief, he can compete at the highest level. Ricciardo is now facing the lowest point in his career and a return to Renault for Alpines might be a great option for his future. Renault, were hurt when Ricciardo joined their rivals McLaren back in 2020, and for now, the Alpine seat in F1 seems more suitable for Ricciardo.
