German Grand Prix Taken Off F1 2022 Calendar With Bahrain To Host The Season Opener

There won’t be a German Grand Prix in 2022 with Stefano Domenicali revealing that the F1 calendar for the new season will be devoid of a race at Nurburgring

Having hosted 75 races till date, the German Grand Prix is the most decorated race in the folklore of Formula 1. With a race every year in the country, the German Grand Prix managed to remain on the calendar despite the string of new circuits sprucing up every year.

After the Hockenheim Ring’s contract ended in 2019, Nurburgring was used for the 2020 edition of the German Grand Prix. However, given the inclement weather set to be in play come the winter, the Eifel Grand Prix was taken off the calendar this season with us having a German GP back in June.

Although the calendar for the new season will be officially unveiled two weeks later, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has gone onto reveal that there won’t be any race in Germany next year.

He also revealed that Bahrain would be hosting the season opener with him striving to keep the season down to 23 races.

I would like to keep the F1 calendar at 23 races. We have inquiries from Africa, we are talking to South & North Africa, plus one or two races in the Far East, such as Korea. I can imagine a third of the races in Europe, the others spread around the world,” Stefano said when asked about the new calendar.
