During Friday’s quarterfinal matches of 2022 French Open, reigning world champion Viktor Axelsen dispatched former world champion Loh Kean Yew with ease and emerged victorious in straight sets by score of 21-11, 21-17. Following this victory, Axelsen has qualified for semi-final stage of French Open, where he will face Japanese shuttler Kodai Naraoka. This win also saw Axelsen avenge last week’s loss against Loh in quarterfinal of Denmark Open.

In another quarterfinal, unseeded Naraoka was leading 14-21, 21-17, 17-13 against eighth-seeded Jonatan Christie, when Christie retired due to unforeseen circumstances and gifted semi-final spot to Naraoka. Elsewhere, Danish shuttler Rasmus Gemke secured comeback victory against Kunlavut Vitidsarn by score of 14-21, 21-18, 21-11 to seal his berth in final-four stage of this prestigious tournament.

As per bookmakers, top-seed Viktor Axelsen is the overwhelming favorite owing to his superb form and lack of top-ranked opponents. However, Naraoka and Gemke have already knocked out many quality players, so it’s safe to assume that Axelsen’s title quest won’t be an easy task. On Saturday, Axelsen will face Naraoka in one semi-final while Cheuk Yiu will face Rasmus Gemke in the other semi-final. Tickets can be bought from here.
