In a match that lasted an hour and 34 minutes, Tiafoe defeated Bernabe Zapata Miralles in straight sets to go to another men’s singles tournament quarterfinal this year. After saving his fifth match-point of the match, Tiafoe, who just advanced to the US Open semifinals, triumphed 6-1, 7-6 (7).

Tiafoe had three serve breaks in the first set to take the lead, but after Zapata Miralles broke him early in the second, he trailed 3-1. In the sixth game, the seasoned American responded with an equaliser, and in the tenth game of the set, he had a few match points on his opponent’s serve. And although he missed them and three more in the subsequent tie-breaker, Tiafoe eventually finished off the triumph.

With a valiant victory over Dan Evans in the second round, Kecmanovic made it two wins out of two after entering the competition as the second favourite against Yoshihito Nishioka and still won the match. To defeat his British opponent, the Serbian prevailed 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4) in two hours and 47 minutes.

Kecmanovic completed his eighth quarterfinal appearance of the season by surviving seven match-points in the final set after enduring four serve breaks in the match and taking advantage of the same amount of opportunities he received (5 total).

Tiafoe should have no trouble against the Serb and win this match in straight sets, despite the fact that Kecmanovic has demonstrated his ability to be gritty.
