Amit Balwan Singh, the outside hitter, led the scoring for the home team with a total of 13 points, backed by A Ramaswamy (7), LM Manoj (7), and Ashwal Rai (5). Despite their collective effort, it wasn’t sufficient to secure a set win on this significant occasion for Indian volleyball. The home team drew strength from overwhelming support at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium, performing impressively despite the odds.
Michael Sanchez emerged as the top scorer for Minas with 20 points, comprising 17 spikes and two blocks of high quality, while Paulo Silva and Marcus Coelho contributed 10 and 9 points respectively. Despite a persistent fight from the home side, Santos, Sanchez, and Coelho’s dominance in spikes led to a three-set victory for Minas. Next, the Ahmedabad Defenders will face defending champions, Sir Sicoma Perugia from Italy, in their second Pool A match on Friday.
As per official schedule, the FIVB Volleyball Club World Championship will continue until December 10 at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru. For watching the matches of this event in-person, interested fans can purchase their tickets from BookMyShow.
