With the Styrian Grand Prix engraved as the next chapter in the 2021 Formula 1 season, know all about its past winners, and fastest lap holders.
After the crucial victory in the French Grand Prix for RedBull, they are back to their home Grand Prix where Max Verstappen already has the best time in practice sessions. With a hard-fought victory in the French Grand Prix, Redbull will be high on confidence.
Max Verstappen topped both sessions, but it was mighty close with the top 15 separated by just one second. At a venue where he triumphed in 2018 and 2019, he has managed to stay humble and recognizes the threat Mercedes pose.
Styrian Grand Prix battle at the top
Mercedes were flying through the RedBull ring in the Friday practice session as both Hamilton and Bottas were gaining forward momentum. After their horrific two-stop strategy in the French Grand Prix, the pressure is on them ahead of the Austrian double-header.
The problem emerged when both of them were facing some issues with the pace of the car. Valterri Bottas was handed a three-place grid penalty for ‘dangerous driving’ when his car spun in the pit lane.
Midfield Battle
All the teams in the midfield feel this might be their time to shine as this is one of the shortest tracks of Formula 1. Styrian Grand Prix will surely bring the midfield closer to the summit.
Alpine looked more comfortable than ever as Esteban Ocon finished third and Fernando Alonso finished fifth in the Friday practice session. Data suggest Alpine should be contenders for not just Q3 but also the third row on the grid at the very least.
Ferrari declared that they will use Styrian Grand Prix as a test in their ongoing investigation of the front tyre issues. Following a poor showing at the French Grand Prix, which saw Sainz and Charles Leclerc 11th and 16th at the chequered flag.
