Some believed the race for both championships was already over before the season had been completed due to Red Bull’s run of six straight victories.

It’s true that throughout that time, Ferrari hadn’t been able to capitalize on their opportunities, but over the last two race weekends, Carlos Sainz’s victory at Silverstone and Charles Leclerc’s subsequent victory in Austria served as a reminder to Red Bull that the Scuderia hadn’t disappeared.

The two teams have been evenly matched for the majority of the season so far, and there is no reason to believe that will change in France, where Ferrari had tire wear issues a year ago but learned important lessons that will help them this time around.

Leclerc has moved up to second place in the drivers’ standings and, over the last two races, has reduced the distance between himself and Max Verstappen by 11 points, to 38. Even while Verstappen will be in the lead in the championship after French GP, if Leclerc can recover some more ground this weekend, some pressure may start to mount on the reigning champion.

2022 F1 French Grand Prix Race Track, Expected Weather, And Other Details

The 5.842-kilometer-long Paul Ricard track in Le Castellet has 15 corners, three straightaways, and two DRS zones. With a time of 1:32.740, Sebastian Vettel set the record for the fastest lap of 2019.

The weekend begins with fairly warm conditions on Friday. There are forecasted to be some gusts of wind up to 25 mph along with highs of 34 degrees Celsius.  Saturday is expected to follow the trend with highs of 33 degrees Celsius during the qualifying races. Who challenges at the front end of the grid today will depend entirely on their ability to maintain composure and protect their tires.
