With Verstappen already securing his championship title, the battle for the second spot has become intense more than ever.
Race For The Second Spot
All eyes are on currently on Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez as they go into the final race of the Abu Dhabi GP with 290 points each.
If Sergio Perez secures the second spot, Red Bull will get to finish the season with both drivers in the top two, for the first time in the team’s history.
A second place finish in the championship standings would be their best result for both drivers in F1 so far.
F1 Brazilian Grand Prix
Just last weekend at the 2022 F1 Brazilian Grand Prix, Mercedes driver George Russell won his first F1 career Grand Prix. His team-mate Lewis Hamilton came behind him at the second place.
The results proved to be a boost for Mercedes securing them their first victory of the season. However, having had a disastrous start, The Silver Arrows, are unlikely to secure anything higher than a third spot in the constructors’ standings this season.
Meanwhile, Ferrari still remain second in the constructors’ championship, following several instances of reliability issues towards the second half of the 2022 season. Initially, Charles Leclerc got a glance of potentially taking his first world championship title.
However, it was cut short by a monstrous performance from Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who has had a dominating year. The final race is also a sad moment for fans as the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be Sebastian Vettel’s final race as he plans to retire.
