Despite playing against opponents who were utilizing pimpled bats that produce greater spin diversity, Feng Tianwei and her colleagues hardly ever showed signs of being worried as they ensured the Singapore’s sixth consecutive appearance in the final of this competition. In the opening match, Lay Jian Fang and Jee Min-hyung were defeated 1-3 (3-11, 11-13, 12-10, 4-11) by Zeng Jian, 25, and Zhou Jingyi, 17, who gave four-time champions Singapore the perfect start. Later, Feng defeated 72nd-ranked Liu Yangzi 3-1 with the help of all her expertise (14-12, 6-11, 11-5, 11-5) and in the third match, Zeng defeated Lay 3-0 to finish off the victory (11-5, 12-10, 11-8).

After India, the incumbent champions, were unexpectedly eliminated on Saturday by Malaysia, Australia was probably Singapore’s biggest threat going forward. Singapore are backed by the experts as the overwhelming favorites to win the gold medal after an easy 3-0 win in the semi-final against Australia.
