In the quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Games 2022 women’s table tennis team competition on Saturday, the defending champions India lost to Malaysia 3-2 owing to a shaky performance from Indian top-ranked player Manika Batra and her teammates.

Commonwealth Games 2022 Women’s Team Table Tennis India vs Malaysia Quarterfinal Summary
In the opening doubles match at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre, national champions Sreeja Akula and Reeth Tennison were defeated 3-1 (7-11, 6-11, 11-5, 6-11) by Karen Lyne and Li Sian Alice. The top table tennis player from India, Manika Batra, who is ranked No. 41 in the ITTF singles rankings, struggled against Ying Ho, who is ranked No. 556 in the world, in the second match. Manika Batra asserted her dominance in the decisive game, winning 3-2 (8-11, 5-11, 11-8, 11-9, 3-11) to even the score.
Then, against Li Sian Alice Chang, Sreeja Akula went off and won 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-9) to secure India a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. The match then moved into the decider, when Karen Lyne shocked Manika Batra by defeating her 3-0 (11-6, 11-3, 11-9) in the fourth game. Reeth Tennison faced Ying Ho in the fifth match, and with the match on the line, she gave it her all. The 27-year-old Indian, however, was unable to advance her team to the semifinals as they fell 3-2. (10-12, 11-8, 6-11, 11-9, 11 – 9).

2022 Commonwealth Games Women’s Team Table Tennis Match Fixture, Date, Time, And Venue
The 2022 Commonwealth Games’ women’s team table tennis competition is taking place at Birmingham, England’s National Exhibition Centre, from July 29 to August 2. Indian women’s team was defeated by Malaysia in their quarterfinal encounter on July 30. Later today, the women’s quarterfinal matches will be played where Malaysian Women’s Table Tennis team will play against Wales.
