English duo of Paul Drinkhall and Liam Pitchford defeated Indian paddler duo of Sharath Kamal and G Sathiyan in the table tennis men’s doubles final at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Sunday.

2022 Commonwealth Games 2022 Commonwealth Games – Men’s Doubles Table Tennis Final Results, Score, And Medal Winners
Paul Drinkhall and Liam Pitchford competed against Sharath Kamal and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran in an exciting encounter for the men’s doubles gold medal. The Englishmen overcame the Indian team 3-2, narrowly depriving them of the gold. After the first game, Sharath and Sathiyan were ahead, but the English team made a mistake. The Indian team was able to tie after game 4, however they fell short in the decider.
Sathiyan’s precise forehand shots helped India to grab a 1-0 lead in the gold medal match by winning the first game. In the second game, Drinkhall and Pitchford fought back and tied the score at 1-1. The third game, which featured the best rally of the match was easily won by the English pair but after changing their strategy in the fourth game, the Indians were able to force a decider.
Drinkhall and Pitchford, though, overcame a 4-4 tie to take a commanding six point advantage and earn six gold medal points in the fifth game. A loud cheer from the crowd was heard as they successfully converted the first one. The Indian team shook hands with its competitors, who had once more outperformed them on the day.
