In his debut at Commonwealth Games, Lakshya Sen overcame a game behind to defeat Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong in the gold medal match at the National Exhibition Centre. Lakshya won the gold medal thanks to a nail-biting win with score of 19-21, 21-9, 21-16.
Elsewhere, two-time Olympian PV Sindhu defeated Canadian champion Michelle Li in straight sets with a score of 21-15, 21-13 to win the women’s singles gold medal. Now, PV Sindhu will get ready for the BWF World Championships 2022, which will take place in Tokyo and begin on August 21.
The world No. 7 men’s doubles duo of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, won the gold medal at Birmingham on Monday by defeating English rivals Ben Lane and Sean Vendy in straight sets with a score of 21-15, 21-13, to turn their Gold Coast silver into a gold. This was India’s first-ever medal in men’s doubles badminton at a Commonwealth Games.
