Ray Wilkie, former meterologist and Network Ten weather presenter, has died at age 98 due to natural causes.
Ray Wilkie’s journey towards becoming a revered weatherman began after his service in the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II. Following his military tenure, Wilkie sought academic achievement and earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Queensland. Driven by his passion for meteorology, he pursued further studies in the field in Melbourne.

His outstanding work and leadership skills propelled him to important positions, including regional director in Darwin and Brisbane. In recognition of his immense contributions to the field, Ray Wilkie was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1984.

Because of his friendly personality and correct weather guesses, people in Australia trusted Ray Wilkie.
Apart from his TV work, Wilkie was also very important in starting the Northern Australia Tropical Cyclone Warning Service. His knowledge and hard work helped the area get better at predicting and dealing with bad weather.
In 2020, Wilkie had an operation at Greenslopes Private Hospital to fix a stomach problem. He said this operation saved his life and let him keep doing what he loves – weather science. Throughout his job, Wilkie made good friendships with other weather scientists and made a big difference to those lucky enough to work with him.
