Akane Yamaguchi, the current world champion, defeated An Se-young in straight sets by scores of 21-15, 21-13 in her opening group-stage match at the women’s singles competition of the 2022 BWF World Tour Finals. In contrast, Olympic champion Chen Yufei suffered a tough defeat to Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in the other Group-A match on Wednesday, falling by scores of 9-21, 21-14, and 16-21. To keep her hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals alive, Yufei will try to win her match against Akane on Thursday.
He Bingjiao of China, who was in excellent form, defeated Tai Tu-ying in straight sets by scores of 21-19, 21-19, elsewhere in Group B. Busanan Ongbamrungphan was defeated by fellow Thai Ratchanok Intanon on Wednesday by scores of 21-15, 21-13 as a result of Intanon’s offensive strategy.
