In the men’s singles quarterfinal of the Taipei Open 2022 on Friday, former Commonwealth Games gold medalist Parupalli Kashyap crashed out after losing to his opponent in a nail-biting three-set match.

The Taipei Heping Basketball Gymnasium is the site of the $500k Yonex Taipei Open badminton competition, which begins on July 19 and lasts until July 24, 2022. Parupalli Kashyap had high expectations from his fellow Indians given that he was the only male singles shuttler from his nation left in the competition but crashed out of tournament following his loss.

2022 Taipei Open Badminton Men’s Singles Quarterfinal Results, Score, Draw, Fixtures

In a 55-minute quarterfinal match in the Super 300 competition, third seed Kashyap’s excellent run came to an end with a loss to Malaysian Soong Joo Ven after scores of 12-21, 21-12, and 17-21. India’s world No. 40 P Kashyap was defeated by the world No. 59 Joo Ven, who won the match with a score of 21-12, 12-21, 21-17 and advanced to the semifinals of the Taiwan Open. Joo Ven, however, will have a tough task ahead of him tomorrow when he takes on Chou Tien Chen, a three-time winner and hometown favorite.

When the score was 2-2 in the second game, Tien Chen was declared as the win after his fellow countryman Chen Chi Ting withdrew due to injury. The first game had been won 21-13 by Tien Chen.

Points Award System

The number of points granted for each round of the BWF World Tour Super 300 competition is determined by the BWF point distribution method. Men’s Singles champions will be awarded 7,000 BWF points, while the runner-up will receive 5,950 BWF points. Only one Indian male singles shuttler, Parupalli Kashyap, reached it past the pre-quarterfinal round of the competition. Despite having great expectations, Kashyap lost in the quarterfinal following a thrilling encounter and missed the opportunity to move up in the BWF World Rankings.

Prize Money Pool Distribution

When the awards are given out in compliance with BWF rules, the total prize pool for the 2022 Taipei Open will be US$500,000. The male singles competition winner will get $37,500 from this prize pool in addition to the highly coveted gold medal. Meanwhile, runner-up will get a total cash award of $14,000.
