In the men’s singles second round of the Taipei Open 2022 on Thursday, former Commonwealth Games gold medalist Parupalli Kashyap dominated his opponent and qualified for the quarterfinals. However, Priyanshu Rajawat, Mithun Manjunath, and Kiran George failed to advance after losing their respective second round matches.

The $500k Yonex Taipei Open badminton tournament is being hosted at the Taipei Heping Basketball Gymnasium from July 19 and will run till July 24, 2022. As the only Indian men’s singles shuttler still left in the event, Parupalli Kashyap will surely face great expectations from his countrymen.

2022 Taipei Open Badminton Men’s Singles Second Round Results, Score, Draw, Fixtures
Third-seeded Kashyap overcame Chinese Taipei’s Chia Hao Lee 21-10, 21-19 in a 36-minute match and progressed to the final eight of 2022 Taipei Open. Meanwhile, lost in straight games to local hero Chen Chi Ting, who dominated the match with a score of 21-19, 21-13.
On the other hand, Manjunath lost against Japanese player Kodai Naraoka in a nail-biting match that lasted entire three sets. Despite winning the first one 24–22, Manjunath lost the following two sets with a score of 5-21 and 17-21, which ultimately cost him the match. In the second round of the BWF World Tour Super 300 competition, Kiran George gave top seed Chen Tien Chou of Chinese Taipei a run for his money before falling to him with a score of 21-23, 21-16, and 7-21.

Points Award System
The BWF point distribution method determines how many points are awarded for each round of the BWF World Tour Super 300 competition. Winners of the Men’s Singles event will receive 7,000 BWF points, while runner-up player will receive 5,950 BWF points.
Four Indian men’s singles shuttlers had made it to the pre-quarterfinals, but only one, Parupalli Kashyap, advanced to the quarterfinals, and as such, he will be closely monitored by Indian badminton supporters as the nation’s lone medal hope in the men’s singles tournament. Kashyap will also aim to go all the way and get maximum BWF points, which will surely help him rise in the BWF World Rankings.

Prize Money Pool Distribution
The entire prize pool for the 2022 Taipei Open will be US$500,000 when the prizes are distributed in accordance with BWF regulations. This prize pool will provide $37,500 to the male singles competition winner in addition to the highly coveted gold medal.
