At the badminton Singapore Open 2022, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting won the men’s singles championship on Sunday hours after PV Sindhu emerged victorious in the women’s singles final.. In a fiercely contested final, Indonesian Olympian Ginting defeated unseeded Japanese player Naraoka Kodai. Prior to winning a close opening set 23-21, number four seed Ginting saved two game points. With a run of six straight points, he then surged ahead in the second game, winning it 21-17 to claim the championship and his fourth BWF World Tour title.

Zhi Yi won the game’s first two points on fortunate deflections off the top of the net, but PV Sindhu quickly roared back to score the next 13 points straight before easily winning the first game to take the lead. The match’s momentum appeared to flip when PV Sindhu was put up against the drift in the second game’s change of ends, as Wang Zhi Yi quickly built a 6-0 lead before the Indian could score. PV Sindhu gave it her all, but Wang Zhi Yi easily won the second game to force a tie-breaker.

The third game got off to an exciting start as both players traded hard rallies. Although Sindhu did manage to lead by five points at the break, there was still work to be done because the Chinese shuttler was set to start the final from the advantageous end. Wang Zhi Yi quickly reduced PV Sindhu’s advantage to one after the game resumed, leaving the final score at 12-11. However, PV Sindhu fought valiantly to maintain her lead. Each rally was determined by the smallest of margins, but when the dust settled, PV Sindhu emerged victorious to win her maiden BWF Super 500 championship.
