History of Indonesia Masters Badminton and BWF Event Status

Since 1937, the Malaysia Open has been an annual badminton competition. It has been staged at Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Penang, Selangor, and Kuantan, among other places. The annual rhythm of the event was disrupted three times: from 1942 to 1946 due to World War II, from 1969 to 1982 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Beginning in 2007, it was one of the BWF Super Series tournaments. Since 2018, the BWF has classified the Malaysia Open as one of the five BWF World Tour Super 750 events in the BWF events structure.

From 2023 to 2026, the Malaysia Open will be one of the top-tier tournaments on the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) World Tour calendar. The Malaysia Open has been promoted from World Tour Super 750 to World Tour Super 1000 on the BWF calendar, joining the likes of the All England, China Open, and Indonesia Open.
