Medvedev screamed at his coach after losing by a set and a break, and the coach retaliated by leaving the stadium. Hubert Hurkacz of Poland overpowered Medvedev in the Halle final, defeating the Russian 6-1 6-4. Hurkacz broke Medvedev in the first game of the second set after dominating the first.

After that, Cervara exited the stadium, and Medvedev never recovered from a set and a breakdown. “Gilles Cervara has seen enough. I’m not sure if there’s been something said there or whether it was just the nature of that point but he is leaving the OWL arena. I can’t quite believe what I’ve seen there,” the commentator said.

Daniil Medvedev, the world number one, screamed at his coach during an on-court tantrum on Sunday before losing his second straight ATP grass-court final to Hubert Hurkacz of Poland in Halle.

Medvedev was unable to respond as he was defeated 6-1,6-4 in just 64 minutes.

The Russian suffered his second straight crushing defeat in a final, having fallen in straight sets against Tim van Rijthoven last Sunday in’s-Hertogenbosch.

Medvedev yelled violently at his French coach Gilles Cervara at the start of the second set on Sunday, prompting Cervara to leave his seat in the grandstand and storm out of the stadium.

The No. 1 ATP player got his no. 1 position in ATP Rankings replacing Novak Djokovic while the Serbian skipped down to No. 3 following Alexander Zverev of Germany.

Medvedev won’t be seen at the third Grand Slam, Wimbledon Championships starting end of this month on June 27th due to the championships banning players from Russia and Belarus following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The players participating in the tournament won’t be awarded any ATP or WTA points as the governing bodies scraped off the ranking points due to Wimbledon’s decision of banning players.

ATP and WTA believe that players work hard to get such positions in the rankings and banning players because of their nationality will be complete discrimination.
