Five years into their men’s doubles partnership, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik have yet to win an Open championship, which they both acknowledge is unacceptable. In today’s Malaysia Masters semi-finals at the Axiata Arena, the pair lost to Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Rian Ardianto 21-14, 19-21, 21-10, failing to shake off their unfortunate run in the closing stages of tournaments.

Similar to last week’s Malaysia Open flops, the loss means that hosts Malaysia won’t have a representative in any of the five finals tomorrow. Before that, Chen Qing Chen-Jia Yi Fan of China defeated Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah in the women’s doubles, 21-10, 21-19, ending their impressive run. Because of Fajar-victory, Rian’s the men’s doubles final would include their elders, Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan, who are both from Indonesia. Ahsan-Hendra defeated Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang of China in the final four matches with scores of 21-19, 21-14 to finish their valiant run.
